Welcome to My DDR-T-Shirt
My DDR T-Shirt is a documentary film by Ian Hawkins. It was inspired by a trip to Berlin in 2005. When Ian bought a souvenir t-shirt with the old East German communist symbol on it, he realised he needed to learn about life in East Germany (the the DDR, the Deutsche Demokratische Republik) before he could wear it. And so, he returned to Berlin with his camcorder and set about gathering stories from both the East and West. These stories and the people that tell them help Ian on his quest to understand what life was like in East Germany.

This website is the online home of My DDR T-Shirt. The film was completed in May 2008, and since then Hawkinsian Productions have been doing everything they can to distribute the film. Screenings, film festivals, film societies, retail sales and feedback – whatever happens with My DDR T-Shirt, we hope to track it here.
My DDR T-Shirt couldn't have been possible without the generous help of lots of people. However, the project is entirely funded by Ian Hawkins and the film has received no external funding or financial support of any kind.
